SILK VEILS
Caring for the veils

Silk is a natural fiber issuing from tiny silk worms. To protect the life of your silk veil, here are a few things you need to know. Each dye lot generally has slight color variation from previous dye lots. When newly dyed, silk becomes a little stiff and prone to static before shipping.

Static occurs when it is dry and there’s friction between the silk and other materials. In time, static is reduced simply by moisture in the air. For immediate results, pull the veil back and forth over a metal hanger. Also, you can spray them with water before you use them. There’s a product on the market that is helpful called “Static Guard”. A warm to hot iron is OK, steam or spray.

Keep your silk veils stored in ZipLock bags. Cut a small corner out of the bottom of the ZipLock bag to allow you to press the air out of it, thus making it pack much smaller.

Never use chlorine bleach on silk.
Dry cleaning is generally preferred, since laundering detergent and dyes in other clothes may adversely affect the color and condition of the silk.

Hand wash each veil separately in cold water with mild soap. Hang dry, do not tumble dry. To keep the color brilliant, give it one rinse in about a gallon of water with one cup of white vinegar before the final cold water rinse. Some bleeding of the dye will occur, but will not affect the color vibrancy. The darker colors may need to be washed before use to ensure any excess dye is removed.

Avoid leaving the veil in the sun.  Enjoy!
